Outline: John 10:1-5, 16, 27 “I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say” Sermon Notes from Pastor Dennis Tuuri for June 30, 2002 Intro – Steven Spielberg, Listening, and the Great Shema (Dt. 6:4-9) (Note implications of Dt. 6 for civil government and the institutional church) The Framers and the Greeks, Our World and the Christian Church – The Need For Reformation I. John 10 draws our attention to the need to hear the voice of Jesus. 10:1-5 This hearing is the necessary precondition to the sheep’s following. 10:16 This hearing is the means whereby the Gentiles (and by extension, the world) shall be saved. (John 18:37) 10:27 The hearing (or lack thereof) of this voice is the test by which the sheep (or their election) may be discerned. The context indicates that it is the voice of Jesus sounding through under-shepherds who speak in accordance to His Word (Numbers 27:21) that is being referred to. II. The witness of the Bible is that the Spirit normally uses audible, articulate speech to communicate.
